Sunday at 10:30 a.m. the Saint Mark’s Choir sings Leo Sowerby’s anthem “Blessed Are All They That Fear the Lord” and W. A. Mozart’s “Laudate Dominum,” with soprano soloist Margaret Wells. Tyler W. Robertson plays organ works by Mozart and Kenneth Leighton. All are welcome!
Pictured here is the American organist and composer Leo Sowerby (1895–1968). Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, he was the longtime Organist-Choirmaster at St. James Episcopal Cathedral in Chicago. He won the Pulitzer Prize for music in 1946. He wrote over 500 works in every genre except opera and ballet. Today, his compositions for choir and organ are best known, and he often is justifiably called the “Dean of American Church Music.”
