Pictured here is the British composer Philip Wilby (b. 1949). He grew up singing in church choirs and playing the violin, and for many years he was a Lecturer in the Department of Music at the University of Leeds. He has written numerous works for voice, organ, and other instruments, most notably many fine compositions for brass band. Among the composers who were important influences on Wilby’s sacred works was the great British composer Herbert Howells.
