Canterbury Choir Camp September 6–8

Do you know a child who likes to sing? A new season for the Canterbury Choir begins in September, and the choir is looking for new members! Open to boys and girls ages 7 to 14, the Canterbury Choir rehearses weekly on Wednesday afternoons and sings for the 10:30 a.m. service on the first Sunday of every month, from September to May.

The season begins with Canterbury Choir Camp (held at Saint Mark’s) the weekend of September 8–10. Participation in the choir offers an excellent opportunity for children to learn not only about the basics of singing and music theory but also about the    Episcopal faith and its liturgy.

The choir is open to all members of the community, regardless of religious affiliation, and there is no cost to participate. No musical background is required. For more information, click here or contact  Matthew Bester (directorofmusic@saintmarkscolumbus.org or 614-486-9452, ext. 309).

Parish Work Day – Saturday September 7

We will come together and get our building ready for the fall.  There will be work for all ages.  We will gather at 9 a.m. and work until noon when we will stop for a hotdogs and hamburgers with the Canterbury Choir.  Come and join in the fun and the work.

Choirs Return on Sunday September 8

Both Saint Mark’s Choir and the Canterbury Choir will sing at the 10:30 a.m. service.  Come and enjoy the wonderful music.

Children’s Formation

Begins on Sunday September 8.  Children’s Formation happens during the first half of the 10:30 service.  Children from ages 3 or 4 to grade 5 should go to the children’s formation area when they arrive.  Younger children will participate in Godly Play, which is a Montessori style program.  Older children will participate in children’s chapel and take a deeper look at some of the readings for the next couple of weeks.  Children return to the service around the time of the peace.

Adult Formation begins at 9:30 a.m.

The Adult Formation program begins again at 9:30 a.m. in the parish hall.  We will be looking at Christianity After Constantine, how Christianity moved from an illegal religious movement to the religion of the Roman Empire and all that came along with that.

Youth Group

The Youth Group’s first regular meeting is Sunday October 6 after the 10:30 service.

New Programs This Fall

There are three new programs at Saint Mark’s this fall.

Messy Church – is a program where there is a Bible story, some conversation and a messy project.  Messy Church meets the third Wednesday of the month at 4:30 p.m. beginning September 18.  Messy Church ends with pizza dinner at 5:30 p.m.  Canterbury Choristers and their families are invited to join in the pizza.

Pub Theology – meets at the pavilion at Littleton’s at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month.  Grab a drink, have a seat and join in the conversation about God.

Tourist in Our Hometown – once a month we will take a trip to some attraction in our area that you always mean to go to, but never quite get to.  In September we will be going to the Great Circle Earthworks in Heath.  We will meet at Saint Mark’s at 12:30 on Saturday September 28 and head to the newest UNESCO World Heritage Site for the 2 p.m. tour.  The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 5 to 12.
