What is the Diocesan Council and what does it do?

The Diocesan Council is an 18-member decision-making body of the diocese presided over by the bishop, comprising 15 elected and 3 bishop-appointed clergy and lay leaders. Council is governed by Canon XII of the Episcopal Church of Southern Ohio. Members serve 3-year, revolving terms and play a critical role in the governance of the diocese. Functioning much like the “vestry” of the diocese, the council is responsible for the coordination, development, and prosecution of the missionary, education, and social work of the Church.  Diocesan Council meets six times per year (or as called).
